First, physical time is the time we normally talk about in everyday life. It is what your clock measures. When we say a class lasts 40 minutes, or that you are 15 years old, we are talking about physical time. It moves from past to present to future, and we use it to measure how long things take.

Now, spacetime is a bigger idea used in physics. Scientists like Albert Einstein realized that space and time are not completely separate. Instead, they are joined together into one system called spacetime.

Think of spacetime as the stage where the universe happens. It combines three dimensions of space (length, width, and height) with one dimension of time. So instead of thinking only about where something is, physicists think about where and when something is.

For example, imagine a football. If I ask where it is, you might say “on the field.” But a physicist may ask: where and when? Maybe it was on the field yesterday at 4 p.m. That full description belongs to spacetime.

Another interesting thing is that in Einstein’s theory, time can change depending on speed and gravity. A clock on Earth and a clock on a fast spaceship might not measure time exactly the same. That idea only makes sense when we think in terms of spacetime.

So in simple terms:

Physical time = the time we measure with clocks.


Spacetime = the bigger framework that combines space and time into one system that describes how the universe works.
