What is the difference between Series and Parallel Circuits?

Series: Components are connected one after another. If one bulb blows, they all go out (like old Christmas lights).

Parallel: Components have their own separate branches. This is how our houses are wired. If you turn off the light in the parlor, the light in the kitchen stays on.
