Both conduct electricity, but differently. A Conductor (like a copper wire) carries current using free electrons. The wire itself doesn't move or change.

An Electrolyte (like salt water or battery acid) carries current using Ions (charged atoms) that actually move through the liquid. This often causes chemical changes, which is how we do electroplating.
